Hello!
I am your guide on a
Journey To Better Reading!
I created Journey to Better Reading to support students, parents, teachers, and homeschoolers as they navigate the path toward confident, capable reading. For more than thirty years, my work has focused on helping children and the adults who support them understand how reading develops and how instruction can be strengthened at every stage. From my earliest classroom experiences to my current work, I have been especially committed to supporting readers who need intentional, knowledgeable instruction to thrive.
I am currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Literacy, with a research focus on translating literacy theory and evidence into practical, effective instructional practices. My work centers on ensuring that reading instruction is not only research-based but usable, meaningful, and responsive to the needs of real learners across home, school, and community settings.
Throughout my career, I have taught students in grades K–8, served as a reading specialist, and coached teachers in structured literacy and MTSS/RTI frameworks. I believe effective reading instruction is explicit, systematic, and engaging, and that clarity and consistency are essential for building strong, confident readers.
Whether I am developing literacy resources, mentoring educators, or supporting families, my purpose remains the same: to help every learner build the skills, understanding, and confidence needed for a lifelong relationship with reading.
